MS Azure - FreePBX VM - Your workloads are running on images that have been deprecated

Hi,


We have received this message from Azure "One or more image versions within the plan public from the publisher, simontelephonics, have been deprecated. As of July 21, 2022, you currently have workloads that are running on images within these plans"


Currently PBX version 15.0.17.12 and asterisk version 16.15.1 deployed on AZ VM.


The marketplace shows two FreePBX options available from Simon Telephonics

FreePBX 16 : FreePBX 16 with Asterisk 18

FreePBX 15 : FreePBX 15 with Asterisk 16


We are getting below options from the CLI

Good day Thara,


We posted updated images with more current versions of FreePBX and Asterisk; however, the major version of both is still the same. 


Your FreePBX 15 / Asterisk 16 combination is still supported! 


We recommend keeping the software up to date using the following commands from SSH (as root) :


yum update


(to update the operating system and Asterisk components)


fwconsole ma upgradeall


(to update the FreePBX components)


These will maintain your major versions of FreePBX 15 and Asterisk 16 but get you to the latest patch versions for security and bug fixes.

Thanks for your response. We are planning to redeploy either of these versions either sticking on the “public” plan based on FreePBX 15 or moving to “public16” plan based FreePBX 16


Could you please let us know till what date (Validity) the below image options are going to be supported.

FreePBX does not have a specified support schedule. The Asterisk support schedule is listed here: https://wiki.asterisk.org/wiki/display/AST/Asterisk+Versions . Note that this is related to Sangoma's published support posture. Simon Telephonics is a Sangoma partner offering these Azure VM images and professional support.


For best long-term support at this time you should choose FreePBX 16 with Asterisk 18. 


Note that the Microsoft deprecation notice does not mean that the VM you are running is no longer supported. It means that if you need to launch another instance of FreePBX, you will have to use one of the current images that has more recent minor versions of FreePBX / Asterisk on it.


Simon Telephonics as a Sangoma and Microsoft partner will support images we publish until such time as our partners declare a product End Of Life. For example if Sangoma declares FreePBX 15 end of life we will continue to support it until that date but will recommend upgrading to FreePBX 16 at that point.


Right now, FreePBX 15 and 16 are the major supported versions and Asterisk 16 and 18 are the major supported versions of the VoIP engine.
